Recently a couple guild members were playing around on the Test Servers trying out patch 1.10. Below is their review of the changes with patch 1.10.
Verem, Shoju, Werninator, Scarlex, and I made some toons on the Test Realm today. All and all the patch is pretty solid, though I have yet to see any weather.
The new flight path interface rocks: basically you just pick your destination and it will automatically make all of the connections for you.
Channeled spells behave a bit differently. What I noticed when I was casting Blizzard was that I could not put down another Blizzard until the one I was currently casting had stopped. You can get around this by moving during the channel, then casting the same spell, but when I pressed Escape while casting Blizzard the Options Menu would pop up, but I would still be casting Blizzard.
The new Quest for Money thing is nice. Basically if you are 60 and do quests, the XP you would get on the quest is converted into money, so some of the quests we completed were worth 5 Gold.
On our first Scholomance run, we got a Codex: Prayer of Shadow Protection to drop (group buff for shadow protection).
That's pretty much all that I can think of right now, but the point of my post is to let everyone know how to do the first couple of quests (and the supplies you need) so that we can prepare for them when the patch goes live.
Getting Started
Right now, all of the quests start in Thrall's Chamber from a NPC named "Movkar". This served to be rather annoying as fifty bahjillion people were standing around him all clicking on him. This meant that it took a while to even get the quests started.
The Bracers Quest
Anywho, once I finally got the quest, I was told to go to Silithus and collect some 15 Venom Samples (something like that). The Samples drop off of the scorpions and spiders around Cenarion Hold. The drop rate was pretty low; Verem and I ended up finishing the quest in about an hour.
After doing this quest, we headed back to Movkar to turn it in. In order to complete this quest, I needed to turn in the Magister's Bracers. Since this was the same for Verem, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that everyone will need their Tier 0 bracers. The reward was my .5 Bracers (blue).
On to the Burning Steepes for some ash:
After you turn in the bracers quest, Movkar will send you to Gadgetzan to talk to Mux Manascrambler. Mux will then give you a quest to who's name I have forgotten.
You will need the following to complete this quest:
[Delicate Arcanite Converter] x 1
[Greater Eternal Essence] x 4
[Stonescale Oil] x 10
Volcanic Ash x 25
40 Gold
Now since we were on the Test Realm, Verm and I were given everything but the Volcanic Ash, so I'm going to only explain how to get that stuff since you can look up the other 3 things.
Volcanic Ash
The ash took a bit to get simply because the Burning Steepes were CAMPED like crazy, which was understandable, after all the natives were restless for new content and loot.
Volcanic Ash comes in piles that look like the soil piles in Un'Goro. These piles are located all over the map in lava ravines. Lava ravines? That's right, I said it. Anywhere in the Burning Steepes where you see lava, chances are some Volcanic Ash will spawn there. However, in order to minimize your time on the quest, I would suggest the ravine south of Flame Crest, and the ones around Dreadmaul Rock.
All in all this quest took Verem and me about 30 minutes.
With all of the materials collected, head back to Mux to hand it in.
The Terror Begins
After handing in the Ash quest, Mux gives you a new quest to collect Ectoplasm. He tells you that he needs plasm from Silithus, the Eastern Plaguelands, and Winterspring.
He gives you this cool device that runs on [Goblin Rocket Fuel]. You simply drop the device (which costs one [Goblin Rocket Fuel] and lasts about 5 minutes), train a bunch of mobs to the device and kill them within the device's aura. You will know you are in range because you will get a little buff that tells you.
This quest was rather annoying because, like with the Ash quest, the locations were camped pretty bad, save for the Winterspring one. "Gimme locayshuns and mobs kk?" Here they are:
Winterspring - Lake Kel'Theril (53,42)
You need to kill the Banshees and Ghosts on the lake.
Eastern Plaguelands - Northdale (70,30)
You need to kill Banshees and Ghosts. The Ghosts here are invisible.
Silithus - Southwind Village (53,42)
You need to kill all of the "Tormented" mobs here.
This quest was really annoying simply for the fact that Silithus was camped really bad.
You v. Magma Lord Bokk
After finishing the Ectoplasm quest, and recovering your sanity, return to Mux. He will now send you to the Burning Steepes once again to kill Magma Lord Bokk. Bokk is located in a lava pit around (36,57). He's really easy as he's a normal level 60 elemental.
Once Bokk is dead and looted, return to Mux.
The Stingey Imp
Mux will now tell you to goto Winterspring, to Darkwhisper Gorge, and buy a Fel Elemental Rod from an imp in a cave. The cave is located around (58,78) in Winterspring and you can easily sneak to it. Now in the quest, Mux says to not have the imp charge you more than 40 Gold for the rod, but when Verem and I went to the imp, he was selling it for 50 Gold and we didn't know how to get him to lower his price--we even tried killing the 60+ Felhound outside the cave.
After you get the Fel Elemental Rod, return to Mux so that he can send you back to good ol' Movkar in Thrall's Chamber.
Testing the device
Once in Thrall's Chamber, talk to Movkar to complete the quest. He will then give you a quest to turn in your Tier 0 belt and gloves. In return, you will get the .5 belt (blue) and gloves (purple).
After getting the belt and gloves, Movkar sent us to the entrance of Living Stratholme to talk to a ghost of a man who had recently died. To do this, thanks to Mux, you have to use the Extra-Dimensional Ghost Revealer near the Meeting Stone outside of Living Stratholme.
Once you do so, a ghost will appear (last name of Harmon) and give you a quest. The quest is to go rescue his wife from Baron Rivendare in Undead Stratholme.
The Dead Man's Plea
This is where the fun starts. In order to complete this quest, you have to kill Baron Rivendare in 45 minutes. And by now you probably know that UD Strath can only be 5 manned when the 1.10 patch comes out.
This is where my 1.10 quest guide ends as Verem and I did not finish this quest, although I did attempt it with a PUG. Here goes my experience with the encounter:
Once you open the second gate, that is the gate after the first big room in Strath, the Baron will tell you to "...withdraw from my domain before she (Ysida) is executed!"
After the Baron says this, everyone gets a 45 minutes debuff called The Baron's Ultimatum.
At this point, the PUG picked up and we started blitzing through UD killing the Baroness first, then the Spider dude. After killing Maleki the Pallid, we had about 9 minutes left. With the 3rd Ziggurat down, the Baron chirped the following:
After a few deaths and with 5 minutes left, the Baron basically said that he was going to take pleasure in killing Ysida and that we
should give up:
As we got to the fatty event, we ran out of time:
All in all the event was pretty fun, I can wait to try it with the FSY, we're going to have a blast. I'm not sure what the quest reward to this one is.
Thoughts about 1.10
I left this last so that you can skip it if you don't care about my opinions.
I already love the 45 minute Baron challenge. Hopefully this quest will set the tone for the rest of the instance quests for the .5 stuff.
Does it suck having to have the Tier 0 stuff before you can get the .5 items? Yup. Most of us have sold our 0 stuff and will need to farm it again. It's funky to think that the Tier 0 stuff will become quest items, which will probably drive the prices for them up in the AH; so stock up now. The price cost is pretty steep already for the quests (90 Gold so far in the first couple of quests, not counting the money we'll have to spend getting other mats).
Anywho, I'm excited for the patch because it is extremely FSY friendly. New items, new quests, new instance bosses, etc.
They were also able to get a video of the new weather conditions! Take a look!
