"WoW Stratics in Beta: Day Seven " by Cha0sGrenade
A while back I said I was going to focus on the aspects of WoW that disappoint me. In the mean time I have written two guides. This brings a smile to my heart, especially considering my experiences beta testing past MMORPGs. With other games in this genre I have had issues so irritatating that they forced themselves to vomit out of my fingers, through my keyboard and on to the Beta Forums. However, even though I have written six beta reports and two guides, trying to write about problems with WoW has been the hardest yet.

The way I go about using macros as a Role Player is to base them on statements that non roleplayers use like "INC", or "ADD" or "Run!". Using acronyms can poison the soul of a RPer. What I do to avoid the alphabet soup of MMORPG acronyms is to come up with statements which serves the same purpose but gives off a little of what my character is all about. For example I've got an icon with a picture of chicken on it that says FLEE. This one is often pressed in rapid succession as my warrior gets chewed on.

Stormwind is easy to find your way around in but totally possible to get lost in as well. This dichotomy simply exudes Role Playing friendliness. First off, every building literally seems different from the next. Big bold signs let you know what each shop is selling and what's more, once inside you can see their crates, their wares and even their upstairs storage areas. in other words, they looked like people actually worked there and shopped there. Instead of EQ shops which are cubicles with vendors. Essentially for the first time in a MMORPG I felt like I was in a city built by its residents instead of a bunch of random box shaped buildings created for the sole purpose of housing vendors.

Ready for some acronyms? I have played UO, EQ, AC 1 and 2, AO, SWG, DAoC
and Neocron. Some of them I played for a week and one for 2 years. I say
this to underscore this comment: I have yet to have an RP experience with
non RPers. By this I mean I have not had a conversation and/or experience
where I was grouped with non RPers, but yet the entire chat log and event
felt like I was RPing. Yet that is what happened in my second group in WoW.

Roleplaying is an enigma wrapped in a thin coating of slim jim meat. Its
hidden in most MMORPGs and many people who want to find it, don't want to
dig through whats on the outside to get to it. The same seems true thus
far with WoW. I will add the caveat that this is Beta and we're all supposed
to be testing the game and not roaming the countryside throwing weddings
and irritating power levelers either.

When it comes to gameplay let me say that any of you Roleplayers who have
hoped from something radically different from past games, you will be disappointed.
However, that is not to say there is no room to be impressed.

"WoW Stratics in Beta: Day One: Another Perspective by Cha0sGrenade
By now there are a glut of Beta reports, so in an effort to shed some light
on a relatively untouched area, we thought we’d explore the initial
experience from the eyes of a Role Player. Stratics wants to do a number
of interesting things to make Role Players feel more at home around here
and I happen to be leading one of the teams at work on this content. Naturally
I was more than a little interested in how the game was going to treat a
jaded role player who had all but given up on the RPG in MMORPG. Hopefully
this can speak to many of you who, like myself, feel neglected by most of
the games on the market.

Stratics in Beta: Day one" by Kheldon
As many of you know, Blizzard is using bit torrent to distribute the beta
and like many others I had my doubts. Those worries did not go away when
my downloader was showing a skinny little 1 kb/s download speed and the
estimated time was showing more than 300 hours. But to my joy only a few
minutes later the download sped up to a much more acceptable level for my
connection and it became only a couple of hours download for the 2 GB beta
client.I won’t delay you with annoying details of the download or
installation; there was nothing exciting about it, but instead let’s
move right on towards the character creation!
