GenCon Reports

Gen Con 2006

Indy Gen Con Report by Lord Bezel
This year I made my second trip out to the Indy Gen Con in Indianapolis.  This event has been taking place here for about 40 years and features anything and everything that has to do with role playing.  Pick your poison and most likely it is represented here in some form or another.
Many big companies made the trip out to showcase their games.  Wizards of the coast was there giving demos for their games, like Magic the Gathering, Dual Masters, Dreamblade (their newest game), and other products.  If you demoed all of their products (which was marked off on a sheet) then you were able to roll a die and win from several prizes which consisted of D&D books, Magic the Gathering cards, novels, and other Wizards of the Coast products.........

This year I had the pleasure of attending the Indianapolis Gen Con 2006. The main purpose of going was to see the new World of Warcraft Trading Card game made by Upper Deck, which was being demonstrated for the first time there.

Upper Deck picked only 200 people before hand from email submissions, thankfully I was one of them so with my email in hand I made my way to the their booth to register for my demonstration. At the booth I met Ben from Upper Deck who registered me for the 2:00 demonstration. So I had a few hours to look around Gen Con and also try out the Burning Crusade expansion..........

Gen Con 2003

Gencon Report by Trevor "Distepre" Johnson
I can’t even put enough emotion into these words to say how amazing this game was. Everything people have said about “not ever looking at the Experience Bar because of the entertainment” is true. I had been playing and didn’t even realize I had leveled. The amount of work Blizzard has put into this game really shows, and I can’t even imagine what it will be in the end. This game is the turning point for the MMORPG genre. Either that, or the end of all other MMO’s, because if anyone is anyone, they will be giving this one a good hard look.

World of Warcraft is a very simple game. Everyone can learn. The game was designed to the buffer between normal gamers and hardcore gamers. So hardcore PvP elements may not make it into this game, therfore this game may only be enjoyable by those who enjoy MMORPGs because they are Massively multiplayer and they are RPGs, and by those who have imaginations.

I like this game. Some will be dissapointed with it though. In all honesty, people may get bored with Quests, and Guilds may not even have guild houses in the first release. Therefore I believe the community in WoW will play a huge part to the game's fun factor.

Gen Con Report by TehSuq
Blizzard has one thing completely, undeniably wrong: they simply don’t know the definition of “alpha.” Both Anarchy Online and WWIIOL were less polished and complete three months after RELEASE than WoW is RIGHT NOW. In the five hours I was there, the two demo comps ran non-stop, with new players jumping in every 10 minutes. During that entire time, one computer crashed-to-desktop one time and the other did not crash at all. At no point did either computer lock up, and the single crash was up and running thirty seconds later, without so much as a reboot.

Thanks TehSuq, SoCxRhijord and Kitzofsorrow for the screenshots and camshot.
