| Community Focus - WoW Roleplaying Association |
 The WoW Roleplaying Association takes the next spotlight in the Stratics Community Focus. With almost any MMORPG there are a host of sites out there catering to the leveling crowd with maps, hints and guides for more efficient gaming. The WoW RA however has its focus aimed squarely at encouraging and facilitating Role Playing. RP can sometimes be the ugly step child to its sexier siblings like PvP and the high end game, but the WoW RA hopes to give warcraft RP a little boost.
Gothic Shadow spent some time answering a few questions of ours about the site he runs.
How would you describe your site and its intended role in the WoW Community?
The role of the World of Warcraft Roleplaying Association basically is just to provide a place where Roleplayers can get together and hold RP functions to their tastes. We here at the WoW-RA are trying to bring all those people together and give them a place where they can really enjoy themselves. Of course in game we will try and cater many tournaments and in game functions along with coordinating many RP events on the sites and meetings and such. I hope it will be a big hit among many of the RP Guilds out there, and they will come and check out what we have to offer.
However, the World of Warcraft Roleplaying Association's site is trying to be friendly towards all types of players. Roleplayers, hardcore gamers, as well as the everyday player.
What are some of your goals for the site?
Create a comfortable place where members and visitors who share the common idea of roleplaying and/or for information pertaining to WoW.
Give these members the oppurtunity to talk and comunitcate to each other their ideas and form guilds within the WoW-RA. We will also offer free hosting to any and all guilds who wish it, upon completion of the WoW-RA website.
Which MMORPGs have you played in the past?
I am fairly new to MMORPG's. I have only played Shadowbane for a while until I became tired of the lag and lack of fixes with the game. Yet still there are many things I do not know, and a lot of this is new to me as it may be new to many of you.
Of all the new MMORPGs out there, what made you choose WoW?
Well out of all the others, the first thing that turned me to WoW was the company that created it. Blizzard makes great games. I have played Diablo and Diablo II and loved them, then got into the Warcraft Series and now I am basically hooked. Even though the storyline is not as original as it could be, the games are very addicting and I have fallen in love with the WoW storyline.
Why do you think RPers have a bad rep with some of the more leveling minded gamers?
I think because it is just personal preference. There are many players out there that will just go kill and level to become stronger. That is perfectly fine. It is just that the Roleplayer likes to roleplay the game, and follow the storyline that has been laid out before them. The game has quests and has factions that are meant to be followed. That doesn't mean the hardcore level gamers are wrong or the RPers are right, it is all personal preference.
Also a more down to earth thinking behind that is, that I believe the leveling minded gamers bring their real life ways into the game. The world moves fast and you must be strong in order to survive and by doing that the fastest way is just to grow stronger and level. RPers let all that go and just enjoy the game world that isn't real and that will allow them to relax while playing, and not focus on being the strongest.
Of all the races, which do you think offers the most and the least material for interesting RP?
This is an extremely hard question to answer and in my opinion every race has exactly the same material for roleplaying. Humans, Night Elves, Gnomes, Dwarves, Undead, Orcs, Tauren, and Trolls all have the same amount. They all have a history and with a history comes the ability for interesting RP.
