Calm Before the Storm (Stress test part 1)
Calm Before the Storm

-T Minus 16 hours and counting. (or maybe already started by the time you read this)

So, Stress test is finally coming tomorrow. I even went out and spent 260 bucks upgrading my computer today (Processor+Mobo and RAM) Sure, my previous computer fit the minimum requirements. BUT THIS IS WORLD OF WARCRAFT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. This is the game I have drooled over for the last 2 years or so. True, I also drooled over Shadowbane. But this time, it feels different. One of the things I've always liked about MMOGs is the "eventlike" nature of them. When I'm participating in something huge... It just seems so much more exciting. How many other games can fill up 100,000 STRESS TEST slots in just 2 days. While not something I would have normally done, I even bought the 7 dollar monthly subscription to fileplanet just to ENSURE I'd get to play the game. I've also gotten into the Tribes Beta, plus I took the opportuntity to do a crapload of downloads maxing out my cable modem for many hours in a row at 380KB/sec. Not a bad deal I guess.

But anyways, The World of Warcraft Stress test is about to begin in less than 16 hours. Sure, all you Closed Beta Testers may laugh and mock at my enthusiam (all 7 of you), but I'm hoping for the best. I know that I have a 4 day weekend coming up. (Your U.S. Military hard at work.) And I plan on devoting a good 96 hours during those 4 days playing World of Warcraft. Sure - you may have been a former EQ addict, maybe stayed up all night a couple times, maybe even logged in for more than 24 hours straight. (My record was 25.) But this weekend I'm aiming for the impossible! And I expect to fail! These last 4 days, I think I have memorized the entire Thottbot. I've gone over every class guide available on every fan site. I've painstakingly gone over every talent looking to make the perfect character. (Even though I'm not going to be playing a class with Talents implemented yet.) And yet, as much as I'm keyed up, everyone else appears to be calmed. Sure, Tigole announced a bunch of Cool New Things, and Blizzard has a new community Manager, but clearly the center stage news story (for me) is my first chance to play the game that all my guildmates have been raving about for months.

Of course, I will probably more realistically play for around 7 hours a day on my 4 weekend and about 3 hours a night on the worknights. But it's nice to dream. Maybe I'll move my sleep schedule around a bit. Why bother being awake when you would just be sitting at the log in screen not able to log in. Instead, I hope to get some good playtime in around 4am.

Anyways, I'm going to be writing a couple more of these journals as the stress test goes along. I know there are more than just a few people that didn't get in (and some maybe even angry about it?) But I'll do my best to update you guys with the goings on during the next week. With just 1 week to play, I certainly don't have much chance to go back and fix any mistakes if I make any, so I'll just trudge along and write some updates when the servers go down or are filled past capacity with those other 99,999 people that are all just as intent on getting in a chance to try out this game.
