The Druid is a hybrid class. However, unlike its fellow hybrid classes, a Druid
is limited to essentially one role at a time. The Druid can either be in Cat
form for damage similar to a Rogue, Bear/Dire Bear form for armor and survivability
similar to a Warrior, Caster form (no shifting required) to have full access
to the Healing and Damage spells, or Moonkin form (if talented this direction)
for damage similar to a Mage.
The Druid has two additional forms that are gained throughout its lifecycle:
Aquatic form (a sea lion) and Travel form (a cheetah). The Aquatic form gives
you an incredible swim speed bonus and unlimited breath, but you are limited
to regular melee attacks while in this form. Travel form gives you a 40% increase
to run speed and allows you to escape from battles very easily, or cover distance
between towns quicker.
Shapeshifting is the essential role of a Druid and is the premise the class
is built around. Shapeshifting costs mana and you must always revert to your
Caster form before you can switch into a different form again. However, shapeshifting
makes you immune to polymorph effects and allows you to remove movement impairing
effects when you shapeshift (except Daze). These inherent shapeshifting abilities
provide the Druid with unparalleled escapability and Druids become the natural
choice for a flag carrier in the Warsong Gulch battleground.
As a Druid, you have the ability to somewhat freely change into any role your
party needs at the time. This may require you to carry multiple sets of gear
to more adequately fulfill these roles, but the extra gear is something most
Druids carry around for convenience in any case.
A Druid’s talents truly affect their gameplay. The way you spend your
talent points truly affects the way you gear and play your character. The Druid
class has 3 talent trees: Balance is used for magic damage; Feral is used to
enhance your Cat and Bear/Dire Bear abilities; and Restoration is used to enhance
the Druid’s ability to heal.
