Demons

Archimonde the Defiler Kil´Jaeden the Deceiver Mannoroth

Archimonde the Defiler
Sargeras looked to the demonic race known as the Eredar to find his leaders. Kil’jaeden was chosen to recruit the dark races of the universe and Archimonde the Defiler was chosen to lead those armies into battle. When looking for someone to serve him, Archimonde looked no further than the Pit Lords and chose the most powerful one among them, Mannoroth. It would be Archimonde and Mannoroth who would lead the assault on the world tree at the end of the third war.

After the undead Scourge and the Legion itself had smashed the armies of the Alliance, it was Archimonde who would destroy their greatest city. The magical towers, libraries and halls of Dalaran were toppled by the magic and will of Archimonde alone. Survivors speak of seeing the wizard’s spires crushed and toppled as if by an enormous disembodied hand.

A massive creature, he towered above other demon’s like Mannoroth as a giant among giants. When the Legion made its final assault on Nordrassil, the World Tree, Archimonde himself would be the one to try and fell the great tree. Had he been able to uproot it his power would have been unstoppable, but the Druid Furion Stormrage laid a masterful trap for the arrogant demon lord. Just as victory lay within his grasp, scores upon scores of wisps, the very soul of the forest itself detonated themselves in unison. The massive drain of magic so enormous that the power immediately unleashed itself in an explosion not seen on the world since the destruction of the Well of Eternity. Nordrassil was made barren of leaves and the trees for miles upon miles laid down as if by the hands of gods. Some say that Archimonde lived and was merely banished from the world. Others believe he was destroyed as no being, god or mortal, could have survived such and explosion.

Kil’Jaeden the Deceiver
Kil’jaeden the Deciever was one of two of the demonic race known as the Eredar, chosen by Sargeras to lead his legions. Kil’jaeden’s given task was to seek out an army for the Legion. An army made of the forces of darkness whose soul purpose would be to rage against the forces of order throughout the universe. His first victims were the Nathrezim another race of demon whom are most commonly known as Dread Lords. Tychondrius would become his general and with the help of the Dread Lords, Kil’jaeden would search the myriad of worlds to find forces capable of serving in the armies of the Legion.

A promising race of powerful warriors was found on Draenor. The orcs were warlike and proud, what was more palatable to Kil’Jaeden however, was an extreme thirst for power in many of their leaders. Originally he hoped to corrupt their greatest warlock Ner’zhul and bend him to the will of the legion. Kil’Jaeden quickly discovered that the crafty orc was not going to break easily. The orc worked to get secrets from the demon even as the demon worked to manipulate the warlock. The demon finally decided that although Ner’zhul was the most powerful among the orcs, he was not going to be the puppet he needed. The demon would instead turn his attention to a pupil of Ner’zhul’s. Ambitious and power hungry, Gul’dan was everything the Deceiver wanted and soon the lesser, but still powerful warlock was commanding the horde as Kil’jaeden whispered promises of power and glory.

Kil’Jaeden had Ner’zhul abolish shamanism and push his people into the darker magical arts. The orcs became blood thirsty and annihilated all their enemies on Draenor and within their own ranks. The clan had nothing left to consume when finally a call from Azeroth reached the ears of Gul’dan. Medivh, a human mage, wanted the orcs to help him crush his father’s kingdom and offered to open a portal from Draenor to his world. Kil’Jaeden was well aware of Azeroth and the power it held. The Legion had been beaten there twice before. Once in an attempt to take the Well of Eternity from the Night Elves and again when Sargeras fell to Medivh’s mother, Aegwyn. The Legion hatched a plan and the orcs were encouraged to accept Medivh’s offer. The Horde would be sent to soften or even destroy the protectors of Azeroth and then the Burning Legion would step in to take control.

All did not go according to plan. The Orcs were defeated in part due to the mindless bloodlust created by the demon’s chaos curse. The Legion was not pleased with the orcs and Kil’jaeden returned to Draenor to punish those who remained. Ner’zhul foresaw the defeat of the Horde and the Legion’s subsequent displeasure and had taken steps to try and break the Legion’s hold over his people. He sent his trusted lieutenants Gromm Hellscream and Kilrogg Deadeye back to Azeroth to secretly steal artifacts to open gates to other worlds’ The hope being that they could hide from the Legion and be free of them. Just as Ner’zhul and his most loyal tried to escape the dying world of Draenor, Kil’jaeden returned and caught them as the portal traversed the Twisting Nether.

Kil’jaeden took great pleasure in his torment of Ner’zhul. The warlock was ripped apart but yet remained conscious and aware of the pain and hopelessness of his existence. Ner’zhul’s agony was limitless while in the clutches of the demon. However, the demon eventually realized that he could find another use for the crafty warlock. He drew ice from the coldest reaches of the Nether and incased the warlock within it. The magical nature of the ice amplified the warlock’s already potent powers and he found his consciousness amplified exponentially. Kil’jaeden was convinced that Ner’zhul would serve him faithfully as the Lich King, now that he understood what price awaited him should he fail the demon again. With the power to bend the wills of mortals and corrupt the souls of the dead, Kil’jaeden sent his new general across time and space to crash at the base of the Ice Crown Glacier in Northrend.

Mannoroth
A mountain of a Demon, Mannoroth was the Pit Lord whose blood binded the Horde to the will of the Legion. The Pit Lords are not as crafty and conniving as Decievers such as Kil’jaeden and Archimonde. However, what they lack in intellect they make up in sheer brute force. Mannoroth’s massive double bladed spear was seen to have cleaved entire human buildings in twain.

Mannoroth came to the world of Azeroth in part to extract some vengeance against the orcs. The Legion doesn’t except failure and when the orcs failed to claim Azeroth in the first and second war, Mannoroth accepted some of the blame and pain that came with it. Initially Mannoroth only wished for blood, but Tichondrius the Dread Lord saw another road to vengeance. Instead of merely destroying the orcs, Mannoroth once more enslaved them to his will with more of his blood. A forest spring was corrupted and drew the orcs to it like flies as they battled the Demi God Cennarius. The Orcs’ were sacrificed as pawns to destroy the last major obstacle between the Legion and the World Tree. Yet Mannoroth would once more have his pride wounded by the orcs when their leader was quickly defeated and released from the chaos curse by Jayna Proudmore, Thrall and Cairne Bloodhoof.

Unable to simply walk away, Mannoroth went alone to a valley not far from the orc camp. He called out to Thrall and Gromm and waited for them to arrive. Few who fought or even saw the massive smoldering demon lived through the third war, but Thrall would be one of them. The demon shrugged off the best blow Thrall could deliver. In the mind of the demon victory was assured so rather than finish the orcs, he gloated and tried to exert his will over Gromm once more. Laughing with pride and arrogance, the demon thought Gromm had once more succumbed to the Chaos Curse and he reveled at the humiliation of his adversaries. However, Gromm fought the curse and with a blow worthy of legend, he tore a massive wound across the demon’s chest. The chaotic fire burning with the Pit Lord came streaming out and engulfed Gromm in searing flames. The fire consumed the demon and orc as well. Gromm would live long enough however, to have seen the destruction of the one who had enslaved himself and his people.

Using an artifact known as the Demon’s Soul, Alexstraza and her children were for a time, enslaved by the Horde and used as their force in the skies. Many a Griffon rider would fall to the flames of red dragon riding orcs. For years the reds struck fear into the hearts of Alliance warriors. However, when Rhonin freed Alexstrazha from the grip of the Demon’ Soul and the will of the warlock Nekros, her rage was the stuff of legend. The mighty dwarven fortress of Grim Batol shook as the great red queen extracted blood as payment for her servitude.

Deathwing
The mighty black dragon and his Dragonflight were the bane of dragon kind. Many of the greatest of Aezeroth’s dragons have fallen to the evil Black and his minions. Ysera the Dreamer
The great queen of the Green Dragons, Ysera and her kind stand as the guardians of nature and the very spirit of the world itself. She makes her home in the spirit world which hovers somewhere between this world and the next. Called the Emerald Dream, this world is also the home to the sleeping Nightelf Druids. When the dragons gave the Kalimdorei the gift of Nordrassil to watch over and protect them, Ysera demanded in the bargain to have the Druids stay within her realm for centuries at a time, while there bodies slept. Though some elves like the Quel’dorei detested the idea, the druids saw it as a debt owed to nature and the dragons who had given them such a gift.
